ETLCO has trained staff to perform the odor impact assessment. In coordination with our technical partners, ETLCO provides the following services:
Determine the odor levels (frequency, Duration, Concentration) at sensitive receptors.

- Differentiate the odor impact of one plant from neighboring plants.
- Recommend solutions for odor impact reduction.
- Determine efficiency of installed odor control technologies.
Odor assessment of a refinery plant utilize 4 main phases and technologies:
- Field Odor Patrol using personal olfactometry and portable gas analyzers.
- Source sampling and olfactometric laboratory analysis
- Dispersion modeling
FIELD ODOR PATROL MEASUREMENT
Source identification: determining the sources that need to be sampled and measured using olfactometric laboratories.
Baseline Study: assessing the plants emission at the boundary and at the sensitive receptors (neighboring residents).
- Quality Assurance: assessing the accuracy of predicted impact from dispersion
Contribution Study: assessing the impact of other nearby odor causing industries
Quality Assurance: assessing the accuracy of predicted impact from dispersion model and source sampling by comparing the results to real measured field data.
Determine the effect of process events: (e.g., flaring) on odor impact of the plant.
